Which STA-BIL product do I need?
STA-BIL products keep fuel fresh to protect engines in cars, motorcycles, boats and outdoor equipment. But which product is most suitable for you? Below we explain which products should be used and when.
Cars
If you are storing your car, whether it be a classic car or modern car we recommend using STA-BIL Storage. Fuel can degrade in as little as 30 days so if you are storing your pride and joy for a month or longer we would strongly recommend using a fuel stabilizer such as Storage.
Petrol in the tank can break down when not being used and this can cause gum, varnish and corrosion to build up in the fuel lines and engine. We don’t recommend draining your fuel tank as it is difficult to get all of the fuel out of the tank. Leaving the walls of your fuel tank exposed during storage can invite corrosion in the presence of moisture, especially in fuels containing ethanol.
STA-BIL Storage eliminates the need to drain fuel from your tank before storage. It keeps fuel fresh for up to 24 months and prevents gum, varnish and corrosion from forming. It also prolongs the life of an engine by removing water from petrol tanks, and cleans carburettors and fuel injectors.
On the other hand, if you use your car regularly and pretty much daily we recommend using STA-BIL 360 Protection as it guards against ethanol damage and maintains performance.
STA-BIL 360 Protection is designed to reduce the excess water and further absorption of water into your petrol tank that ethanol can cause. It limits corrosion within your fuel tank and system and maintains an optimal fuel blend.
This fuel additive offers comprehensive protection by using a PEA fuel system cleaner, industry-leading corrosion inhibitors, and water removers. It cleans carburettors, fuel injectors, and intake valves.
Motorcycles
Motorcycles are often stored over winter, especially in the UK! If you are storing your bike for more than 30 days we recommend using STA-BIL Storage. Stagnant petrol can cause issues in classic motorcycles as well and more modern vehicles, especially with the introduction of petrol with more ethanol content such as E10.
Like cars mentioned above, if you use your motorcycle regularly all year-round we recommend using STA-BIL 360 Protection to protect against the dangers of ethanol and E5 and E10 petrol.
Boats
For boats it’s a little different. STA-BIL 360 Marine is specially formulated for use in harsh marine environments, it offsets the effects of moisture in today’s ethanol-blended fuels.
STA-BIL 360 Marine is perfect for use at every fill-up as it protects your entire fuel system against damaging rust and corrosion caused by moisture and ethanol fuels. It also provides a protective coating on all of the metal parts of the fuel system and combustion chamber, even when the engine is not running. In addition, it strips away carbon build-up, gum and varnish that can inhibit engine performance, and gets the most out of your fuel by burning it more completely.
It’s also recommended for periods of storage and will keep fuel fresh for up to 12 months. If you plan on storing your boat for longer than 12 months then STA-BIL Storage is compatible with marine engines and will keep fuel fresh for up to 24 months.
Lawnmowers & Outdoor Equipment
Looking after your small engines is similar to looking after a car or motorcycle. When storing them over winter we recommend using STA-BIL Storage. If you keep them running through the colder months we recommend using STA-BIL 360 Protection to keep them running smoothly.
Diesel
If you’ve got a Diesel engine, ignore all of the above as we have a specific product which should be used. STA-BIL Diesel is a diesel additive that keeps fuel fresh for quick, easy starts and maximizes engine performance.
STA-BIL Diesel can be used at every fill up to maintain engine performance or to stop the fuel degrading during periods of storage.
